I'm considering purchasing an iMac. Since the resolution on a 24" iMac is about 1900x1200, does this allow it to show 1080i/p content, in theory? Also, I edit home movies in FCE, miniDV 1080i so I feel like I need to have an HD monitor.

1200 is greater than 1080 last time I checked. :)

From that I am guessing the op isnt fully aware that 1080i/p HD video is of resolution 1920x1080. The 24" iMac I have has a screen resolution of 1920x1200. This is because 1080i/p are 16x9 in scale, but monitors tend to be 16x10 for some unknown reason hence more horizontal lines on computer screens over TVs.
