How could anyone call the Registry a useful feature? The Registry is one of the stupidest things that an operating system could have. It makes portability and other things a pain because certain files are tied to the computer they were originally put on. Gconf implements a registry on Linux, and there is a reason why only a handful of non-Gnome programs use it. It's just unnecessary.

Also, ActiveX is truly pointless. It's one of the biggest security holes in Windows, and calling a useful feature is kind of noobish.

One of the big problems with Microsoft and their technologies is the insistence on evolving technologies without addressing the design flaws. ActiveX is the result of a long twisted migration from DDE, to OLE, to COM, to COM+, to DCOM, to ActiveX. What started as a way for documents to be the central interface to users evolved into a way to develop shareable application fragments, application customization, and embedded applications. Unfortunately, the original intended use assumed a completely friendly computing environement. No need for security. What resulted was a very nice way for people to distribute viruses and other malware. Nice technology that was implemented with no vision of the future.

Java applets (on the other hand) were designed to operate securely in a sandbox from the beginning. For embedded web page use, applets would have replace ActiveX controls a long time ago if Microsoft had not decided to refused to support Java.
