Just tried to empty the trash and 3 files could not be removed from trash.

Error message is
" the operation cannot be completed because the item 2008-5-2.JPG is in use."

Closed all applications and still no success.

How can I find out what process is actually using the document.

Is there another way to remove them from the trash.

Update1 .... I trashed another document ( .pdf ) and that was removed from trash successfully. Only the Jpg's won't go away.

Cheers

If that doesn't sort it, try force emptying the trash, from the finder menu

Guys, Thanks for your help.

" Empty Trash " from the finder menu did not help , however, " Secure Empty Trash " from the finder menu did the trick.

I hesitated to reboot my MBP as that would remind me too much of my old " CTRL - ALT - DEL - Restart " nightmares with Windows;D

Thanks again.

Rebooting your system is good to do from time to time. Sometime there are processes and applications that will not quit even with a forced quit (kill function). Rebooting your system will terminate the defunc processes and free up all of the available memory for use again.
