Your Mac's Specs
MBP 2.53Ghz, 4GB ram, 500gb hd -- Apple TV 160gb -- MacMini 1.83ghz
I switched from the 2.4Ghz band to 5Ghz. My transmit rate went from 130Mbps to 300Mbps, which is noticeable when transferring stuff from my MBP to my Apple TV! The 5Ghz band is less susceptible to interference, there are less devices using this frequency.
