fairly new to Mac OS, about two weeks, but I'm getting around nicely. My question is, when I launch a new finder window it seems to deafualt to the last folder I was in. Is there a way to have finder always start in the same default view?

View > Show View Options will allow you to select your default view.

I'm not sure of a way to make it always default to the same folder every time. However, if there is a folder you frequently visit, you could add a shortcut to it on the left side of the Finder under Places, and you'd be able to access it in one click no matter where the Finder is viewing.

In the Finder Preferences under the General tab there's an option that says "New Finder windows open:" option and you can choose what always opens in the finder.
