error code-1309

I'm trying to copy a movie i made on imovie onto an external HD so i can reinstall my OS and I get this message: error code-1309
looked on Mac website etc but couldn't find any explanation!
Anyone know what i could do?

Your Mac's Specs
15" MBP '06 2.33 C2D 4GB 10.7; 13" MBA '14 1.8 i7 8GB 10.11; 21" iMac '13 2.9 i5 8GB 10.11; 6S
Is your external drive formatted as FAT32 and your file over 4GB?

This would be the problem. FAT32 does not allow for file sizes over 4GB.
