I'm interested in using an external firewire drive as my minis primary hard drive. I know I can boot from a firewire drive. My question is, will the minis internal drive still spin when I do this? Is it possible to sleep the internal drive while the external is connected? I can hear my internal drive spinning and it's super annoying.

Thanks for an help.

not 100% sure. it will spin up on boot but if you go in to energy saver pref pane and select 'put hard disks to sleep when possible it will most likely stop it spinning.

It may start spinning again when you try and browse the file system in certain ways.

You could also try unmounting the internal drive once booted up like any other external drive. It will stay unmounted until you reboot.

Worth a try
