I have a regular MacBook OS X Version 10.4.11. It has the application called "DVD player" version 4.6.5. , and I am assuming that the CD drive doubles as a DVD drive. However, when I enter a DVD, it tries to recognize it, but then just ejects it. Any ideas why it's not working and how to fix it?

Do you actually have a superdrive (DVD), or is it a combo drive (CDs)?

If you go to Apple Menu> About This Mac> More Info...> Disk Burning you can find out.

That's an odd one. I'd give Apple a ring TBH, not sure about that.

some dvds just dont read..you have to accept it...whats even worse is that these computers seem to have been pre-programmed with artificial intelligence...they seem to understand the concept of perseverance...i have had several cds & dvds (blanks & prerecorded) which the computer keeps ejecting...& sometimes if i keep trying (basically if i decide to be more stubborn) IT READS!

Looks like a Superdrive. However, combo drives read DVDs as well. As rohan stated, some of them simply won't read no matter what you do.

You have a faulty drive. Time to take advantage of that warranty.

A Combo drive reads CD's/DVD's and Burns CD's.
A SuperDrive Reads CD's/DVD's and Burns CD's/DVD's.

Does every DVD you try do this or just some? Are they factory movies or burned media?
