I have a pretty big problem with Apple these days. Its their customer service and their loyalty to their customers, it sucks! I mean, after all, what are we going to do if we're unhappy? switch to PC? HA! Thats a joke and they know it.
Anyway, my sob story goes like this:
I bought a Dual 2.5 G5 in October of 2004, and had a total failure by September of 2005. The tech said it needed to have the Logic Board, the Processor and the power supply replaced. The Apple Store in Santa Monica kept my box for 6 Weeks that time. Then, last year, in July of 07, under two years after the first replacement, I had to take the computer in again. This time, guess what? The Logic Board and the processor had to be replaced. At that time, I spoke with the Manager at the Apple Store about the fact that this was a recurring problem. I repeatedly asked if I could receive a replacement computer, as I noticed the problem is exactly the same and I was worried about it happening again. She said that that she couldn't replace the computer this time, but if it happened again, they would. Well, in the meantime, my Applecare account expired in October of 2007, and then this last month, the computer failed again! The most recent failure only 8 months since the logic board and processor failed the last time. I went to find the girl at the Apple Store, but she was not there anymore, so I could not take her up on her promise. Instead, I took the G5 to another authorized service provider to get a proper diagnosis to make sure the problem was the same. And....YES The computer needs a new Logic Board and a Processor! SO, my question is "Doesn't it seem like this computer is going through its processors and logic boards at an alarming rate? And if so, why should I be on the hook to now pay the $1500 or more to fix it when if we judge by the computer's history it will only burn the parts out again within a year anyway? This is clearly a manufacturing problem that Apple should take responsibilty for. Or did I really spend $5,000 on a computer that has never worked for more than 24 months in a row?
After getting the advice from the service center that the only thing to do was call Apple, I did. I was sourly greeted by a "Product Specialist" that wasn't even willing to agree that the multiple and simultaneous failings of those fairly large elements within my computer was even a strange thing. He acted as if the parts worked for as long as they worked, and if they fail, well then, thats that. He told me that I as the consumer have to take responsibility for the machine after the warranty term expires. That is fine with me, unless the problem with the computer has been going on since it was 11 months old! I'll take responsibility for everything in that computer except the Logic Board and the Processor! This Computer has never worked and I feel ripped off!
So I guess my question is, "How can I get a computer that works? Or how can I get them to just replace those two things as long as they fail every 8 to 12 months?
This is Ridiculous! Aside from this Tower, I own a MacBook Pro, a MacBook, aan iphone, and every piece of software that Apple manufactures. I am a filmmaker, so that means, Final Cut, Aperture, And all the bells and whistles. ALl I'm looking for is someone at this company who cares enough to admit that they might have dealt me a lemon. At this point I wish I could stop buying Apple, but like I said, I have no choice....This is bunk
