How to switch between open docs in Word 2008

Does anyone know the Keyboard shortcut to switch between multiple open word documents? I find this annoying because in windows, each doc is treated as a different window so you could use command+tab, but on Mac it switched between programs. Anyone know the keyboard shortcut for this?

Command + ` (tilde/accent) key

Try Command-` (next to the 1 key). It switches between windows within the same application.

Nice! Thanks man...is there a good place to find more? I googled it but didn't find anything awesome. We should start a thread or something with keyboard shortcuts for programs that we use and aggregate it (i.e. Office, General system shortcuts, etc...)

What I do is press F11 and click the file that I want to work on. Here are some short cuts:

Switch Programs: command+Tab (hold command, click Tab to cycle)
Send to Trash: command+backspace (called the "delete" key)
Force Quit: command+option+Esc (basically the same as alt+ctrl+del)
Screen Capture: command+control+shift+4 (sends to the clipboard)
Screen Capture (Whole Screen): command+control+shift+3 (sends to the clipboard)
Bullet Character "•": option+8

No switching any more!

Hi Guys,
Same old issue, how to switch between open word docs in mac. I could do it earlier using cmd+`, but it doesn't work any more in Word now. For other programs like Preview, it works like a chram.

can you let me know if i have stuffed some setting up?!

The shortcut outlined in the above thread still works. Command + ~ (tilde)

If it's not working for you, it might be because of corruption of the normal template or something else.

(I'm using Office Word 2008)

Yep, I know it works. I have turned some setting off by mistake... Just wondering if somebody could tell what that setting might be!

Have you checked all your keyboard shortcuts in "System Preferences, Keyboard"? Or, by chance made any changes lately to any keyboard shortcuts?

no such changes made to preferences. this shortcut only doesn't work for word. it seems to work everywhere else.

You may have mapped a shortcut in Word which takes priority over this one.

Using the mouse to select a window

I used to be able to activate a window in Word by clicking anywhere in the window. Lately, it only works when I click on the borders of the window. It does not work when I click somewhere in the text. Is there a way to fix this? Thanks.

In Word 2008, use Command + F6 or Option + F6
(You will need to add the 'fn' key on your laptop keyboard)

command + F6, works perfectly to switch between files on word and other office apps.

I was having the same problem. Here is how I solved it.

With Word 2011 open go to Tools -> Customize Keyboard.
In the "Categories" pane select "Window and Help".
Then, in the "Commands" pane select "NextWindow".
Then, click in the "Press new keyboard shortcut" field.
Then, press command+` on your keyboard.
Press "Assign".
Press "OK".

That should solve your problem.

Fantastic!!! Just what I was looking for, figured there had to be a setting somewhere in Word that I had missed!!

Yep, this solved the problem.
The only thing is that cmd+` wasn´t possible to assign, so I assigned cmd+<
Now it works.

(Word 2011 on a MacBook Pro)
