Hi,

I went into my local computer store where I bought both my MacBook and iMac last year and was shocked to see an aluminum iMac on display with the Intel Centrino logo sticker on it. Its the sort of logo sticker thats on bases of PC base units and laptops.

I always thought the iMacs used Intel Core 2 Duo processors and not Intel Centrino. Am I right?

I don't mean to be paranoid but I'd hate to know that the computer store has been putting in a Centrino processer into my iMac before I bought it even though the "About this Mac" display tells me its a Core 2 Duo.

I also feel that my new aluminum iMac 2.0GHz C2D seems to run slighter slower than my MacBook 1.83GHz C2D

They probably just got mixed up. No reason to be paranoid.

Centrino's are mobile processors anyways.

What store was this that is putting Intel stickers on Macs? I have never seen a Mac with an Intel sticker on it.

It was PC World in the United Kingdom.

Well there's the problem right there. Most PC world employees couldn't tell the difference between an Intel Centrino and a Combine Harvester, let alone know what's in an iMac.

Centrino isn't a processor type, it's basically a combo brand:
Centrino PCs have an intel wireless card, mobile processor (currently Core2Duos) and motherboards that are "optimized" for mobile use.

The latest "Centrino Pro" stickers also denote the new Santa Rosa chipset.

For a while it was being heavily promoted here in Europe as being the sticker to look out for, so perhaps PCWorld decided to slap a few on the iMacs.
They're probably also trying to get the "intel Mac" point across...

The iMacs use Core 2 Duo Mobile processors. The 2.8GHz iMac uses a Core 2 Extreme Mobile processor.
