I recently tried to reinstall ichat on my MBP. I called applecare and was told to insert the install disc and hold C after I restart it. I did that and as leopard was installing it said there was an error and that it needed to be restarted. I went through the process again, but as I got to the screen that asks for the destination my harddrive was not recognized. So now I have to send it in to applecare. To get it checked an fixed.

This ordeal sucks; I've only had my MBP for a week.

What might be wrong? They told me to use disk utility and it said there was an error while verifying my HD.

Try just putting your install disk, opening it in Finder and installing it from the "extras" folder.

Let us know if that works or not. And if you get an error, give us the error message please.

It could be any number of things. Since you are sending it in, I would advise against any further attempts to troubleshoot or 'fix' things. You could possibly end up making things worse than they are now. Let the folks at the Apple Store handle it. :)

That is very unfortunate for you. These things do happen. And the HD is most of the time the problem. They break. It sucks. Considering its only a week old, you should definitely be taken good care of. But my advise would be to let apple take care of it. And just try and ride out the bad luck. Im sure when you get it back it will run fine for a long time. Overall, very sorry to hear about your experience.

im sending it tommorow, i just recieved the box to ship it.
i would take it to an apple but the closest one is about 90 miles away, but with gas costing more then 3.60 ill pass and wait a little bit longer.

i wanted to know if there has been any situation where apple care replaced the comp with an updated one?

Ummm... if it's only been a week, why not just go to the place of purchase and exchange it for a new one?

This is not a return. It is an exchange.

I exchanged my IMac after the 2 week period due to the ATI graphics problem they had.

Just spotted this, gas now costing just over $10 a gallon here in the UK !!

And your gallons are bigger than ours

Sorry, off topic, good luck with the new MBP

Cheers :)
