This problem is on a iMac, duo processor, 17", just out of warranty.
My problem is that no matter what I try, when booting, the "gray screen" with the apple on it comes up, but not the spinner.
The hard disk is OK, because with a firewire cable, I am able to use it as an external drive to operate a seperate iMac. Firmware is current, and all startup options which are listed to try (various key combinations at start up) work except it won't pass the grey screen with the apple and the spinner will not spin.
Anything else I can try before taking it to a service place or using it as a boat anchor.
