Hi im using imovie 08 for the first time on my imac.

Ive converted a dvd to mp4 and am now trying to import it for editing.

The movie is 1hr 25min but the import initially said it would take 250 minutes to generate the thumbnails. Is this right? thats 2.5 times the actualk length of the movie?

In reality its taken 1hr to reduce that time by 35 minutes so even slower that its estimating.

Is this normal, seems like a long time to import a movie to me. I have the 2.7gz imac.

Any advice would be appreciated
thanks

iM08 creates video thumbnails so that you can quickly skim through the video. That takes time. This allows the computer to quickly load the video for you to view so you can quickly find areas of interest.

Also note that when importing from many HD cameras that the video is converted from what is on the camera, so that would be added time.
