Hi,
So i'm new here and i tried searching for my problem but i can't seem to find it.
i apologize if i missed a huge thread about it.

I bought a new macbook and gave my powerbook g4 to my mother.
It had the 512mb ram original ram and i upgraded to 1gig of crucial ram.

Since then the laptop will work for a while then either it will freeze, or an error that just says restart your computer will come up.

when working on it the other day upon startup i got this error.

System failure: cpu=0 code 00000008 (unaligned stack)

It works sometimes then fails after its been on after a while.

If i put the old ram it works fine.

here is the ram i installed
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145502

i have read a lot about lower socket failure but it still reads as having 1 gig of ram so it reading both slots..

Specs
Powerbook G4 1.25ghz
originally 512rm
running Tiger

any ideas?

Thanks from my mother
and for the sake of phone bill cause she keeps calling me with questions!
;)
thanks mac forums!

You're having a Kernel Panic, which seems to be the new (bad) ram that's causing it, especially since the old ram works. These are the specs. You could always upgrade to 2GB. ;)
I would return it for a new one. Give them a call.

2nd round of ram

well i bought one brand of ram and it didn't work, same problem, then went for the crucial ram as i've bought it several times before and didn't have problems.

is there only certain brands that work better with the powerbook g4?

Not that I know of. But remember, you get what you pay for. Crucial has a pretty good rep, so it just may be a bad ram module. It's happened to me before. (new, but bad)
Have you tried changing the ram around? Put the "good" one in the slot you think is bad? (by itself) Then try the new in the other slot. If everything works ok until you add the new ram, I'd say you found your problem.

You could also try the Apple Hardware test. Another link for it, if you need the test.
You'd need to run the extended ram test though. The quick test may not catch it right away.
