Freeing up space after moving iTunes songs

Hi,

I've just transfered about 2gigs of songs from my mac to the external hard drive and then deleted all the songs from the mac hoping to free up some space but to my disappointment it hasn't made a difference.

What am I doing wrong?

Have you emptied the Trash?

Yes I've emptied the trash although I think I've found the problem. There are tons of duplicate files which I've had to go through and delete. This seems to be doing the trick.

Although I could still do with freeing up some space and could do with some tips for a good way of going about this.
