iMac 1.8 PowerPC won't see new AirPort card

Hi all new to this forum. My old iMac power pc won't recognize my airport card. It worked then my iMac took a download for airport extreme and now it will turn on and off but no signal strength. My newer iMac runs fine. I ran cat 5 wire to work around this but I would like it to work. Thanks in advance. Jim
