Best Mac Firewall?

I've been wondering what the best Mac-based firewall is? Maybe this is an ignorant questions, but I'll never learn if I don't ask.

What are you guru's using? I'd like something that doesn't hog my resources, just an FYI.

Any tips?

Click on the Apple Menu. Select System Preferences. Click on Security. Select the Firewall tab.

Try using a hardware based firewall (SPI & NAT) from a good router.
Have never found a need to run any sort of software based firewall on any of my machines, whether Windows or now OS X.

bobtomay, I've never considered a hardware based firewall, but I love the sound of it. I'm using a new Airport Extreme router. I'm going to check this out. Thanks!

The Airport Extreme has a built-in firewall that is functioning from the time you turn it on.

You may not need a firewall while you are at home or in a secure office, especially if you are using NAT, but beware when you travel. I was in the airport the other day and they offered free wireless. When I fired up iStumbler and clicked on the Bonjour section I saw 8 different machines, most likely fellow travelers that may or may not have exposed shared resources.

nclester, the firewall built into OS X works great and should do everything you need.

Good point David. Didn't think of that due to not traveling with a computer.

Alright, so the built-in Airport Extreme Firewall, and the Macbook Pro Firewall should be more then enough to block incoming trash. Cool. Thanks for the help!

I enabled my Firewall to be in "Stealth" mode, still waiting to see the difference
