Selecting start-up disk...

This is a bit of a weird one

My new gen 'flat' Apple keyboard will not activate the "choose start-up disk" option when holding down the option key during start-up.

My old 'raked' Apple keyboard does it no problem...

I'd really appreciate any thoughts / solutions.
