Vista pc cannot see airport

i have an airport extreme (802.1N) and my new work Vista machine cannot even see the network. the card is working (i can connect at work) and my XP machine works fine. i have even removed all security settings.
i have seen other paople that have trouble connecting with Vista. but the new pc doesn't even think there is a network. it actually picked up my neighbours router last night when i was trying to fix it.
i would really appreciate some help.
