Does anybody know if it is at all possible to place a G5 processor into a G4?

i have a G4 Powermac running 400mhz 512mb ram and i wanted to upgrade to a faster processor. i have managed to get hold of a G5 1.8ghz processor from a friend as his logic board broke, he is sending me it in the post as we speak.

by googling around i have noticed that they are different to say the least but is their any way of converting this?

thanks, james.;D

No chance.

Even if you did get it in and cool it properly, the architecture of the motherboard won't support it and the EFI wouldn't have a clue what to do with the G5. It won't even boot.

Say the least is absolutely correct and as Alexis says no way. Go to OWC and look for CPU upgrades there from Sonnet, Mercury Extreme etc.
