How do I prevent my black shirts from fading?

Hello,


So I am now the proud owner of TWO MSI shirts.
If you know MSI, you can already assume they're black. (Or you read the title...;D )
Anyway, I don't have a lot of blacks, mostly because they end up dark grays, so I never really bothered.

What are your techniques for keeping blacks black?

One of them is 100% cotton, the other 50/50.

I would buy that detergent for blacks, but thats sort of expensive...and i'm broke.

Best thing to do is wash in cold water and dont dry. Also it has been said that if you throw in so white vinegar the first time you wash colors it will set the color in and make it less like to fade when you was it after that. But for sure cold water and hang dry.

Only wear them in the dark and never, never wash them?? ;D

Duh, don't wash them! LOL!

Wash them in cold water and hang them out on a line to dry. Don't put them in the dryer. You have to know, however, they will eventually fade regardless of what you do with them. But my suggestions will help to make them last longer.

Throw handful of cooking salt ionto the wash water Tanner.

Pour pure bleach on them, then let them soak. The wont fade anymore after that. In fact, I think they can only get darker.

I agree, cold water and hang to dry.

And don't wash them with towels or sweaters or anything that sheds fuzz.

Dip 'em in varnish when they're brand new (beware of pet hair before doing so) and let dry, then wear them.

Wash them inside out. Works for black pants too.

Yes, yes and yes. Wash inside out in cold water, dry inside out in the sun.

Every man should have a black and white dress shirt in their wardrobe. So get two of each.

I own a lot of black shirts (mostly Hugo Boss).. I highly recommend using Woolite (http://woolite.com/) in cold water and hang dry. The dryer is your enemy.

Have them dry cleaned, duh. I've got a few BBC shirts that I only have dry cleaned, and I always tell them to take special care of the shirt.
