just wondering is there a button on the ibook which can disable the mouse pad as my thumb hovers over the mouse and moves all over the lappy when typing.

There is an option for the keyboard that disables the trackpad while typing

Ok, here we go again:

There is no option to do that.

There is an option that ignores "accidental trackpad input"

Meaning it tries to ignore quick brushes of your fingers on the trackpad whilst typing.

Note that this is not a 100% perfect solution, sometimes you'll still end up setting the cursor to a different paragraph etc.
