I had already saved my changes to my recording file in Digital Performer. I've only been storing the file on my external. I turned off my hard drive without unmounting it for some stupid reason. Now it says there's an error when I try to open the file.

Is there anything I can do? Is it really that messed up or can I do something in Disk Utilities?

Thanks!

Try Repair Permissions and Repair Disk, selecting the external HDD from the LH column of Disk Utility. You may be lucky. It may be necessary to Repair Disk from the install DVD or even use that bnest of HDD utilities, DiskWarrior 4.1.

Have you tried rebooting your computer and mounting the external drive again?

I've been doing this out of sheer ignorance and forgetfulness for over a week, so far I've been lucky.

The re-boot and turning it on again has sorted it out.
