I have just purchased a larger Extern HDD. I wanted to use it for Time Machine . What about my Old TM on the old Extern HDD. I needed that too.

So How do you Transfer your Old TM to a new home and, carry on as if nothing has happened ?... Like this

1. Turn Off Time Machine
2. Attach both drives to your Mac (it will help to not call both Time Machine)
3. Launch Disk Utilities. Select The old TM drive and Select the restore pane
4. drag the old TM disk to the Source Window
5. Select the new Drive where you want to put the TM. Drag it to the Destination window
6. Tick the erase Destination Box
7. Click Restore
8. Wait 3 Hrs 1.5 for copiing 1.5 for verifiying (Depends on disk size)
9. Hey Presto! you now have your Old TM on your new TM extern HDD
10. I hope this helps if you have the same problem .. Good Luck :)

The picture is a general one from the Disk utiliy restore pane

I was wondering if you could just copy the files from the old drive to a new drive and just direct time machine to the new drive. I guess that doesn't work?
