Can anyone post a ratio of the number of viruses there are on Macs to the number of viruses there are on windows?

Example: 1:4 or 1:7

(i have no idea):)

Depends on what your definition of virus is. Do you want to limit it to those out in the wild or do you also want to include proof of concept viruses?

If the former, then it's probably something along the lines of what mac57 said, no kidding. If the latter, increase the Mac side by a few.

There are no viruses in the wild for Mac OS X at this point in time, period.

There have been a few "proof of concept" viruses created in a lab environment, none have been released.

There have been a number of exploits that were rumored about, but they have either been patched against or never publicly demonstrated.

There is one trojan that I am aware of. It must be deliberately installed by the user, and that installation requires an administrator password, which should be a red flag to any Mac user. This hardly qualifies as a virus (which needs to be self-replicating).

There are some conflicting numbers out there, but I guess it's always changing.

About 71000 Viruses for Windows - 0 for Mac os X (there are total of 579 viruses for the mac, 553 of them are word/excel macro viruses, and all of them are for the older non-os x based system)

Yes, I said "jokingly", but it was actually fairly close to the truth. I only added the "jokingly" in case someone had discovered one during my two week vacation.
