.ds store file

Probably a silly question but here goes.

I have a .ds_store text file that keeps appearing on my desktop. It never used to exist and I don 't know what I did for it to have mysteriously appeared. If I drag it to the trash can it pops up again in less time than it takes to say "Welcome to Jamaica and have a nice day"

Can someone please tell me how to get rid of it? please......

Normally a file that starts with a "." is invisible. You must have set your computer to show invisible files.

the .ds_store file will be in a lot of folders on your system. It simply holds the information about how to display the folder in the finder, if there's a background color or picture and stuff like that. That's just how Mac os works. It'll always be there, just normally you can't see it.

Ok so how do I hide them again?

Type this into the terminal.

defaults write com.apple.Finder AppleShowAllFiles NO

Or if you'd rather not use Terminal, launch MainMenu (or OnyX) and ask for hiding invisible files.

Apple just sent me this link to remove or hide the file & it worked great!
