What happpened to my low battery warning

Your Mac's Specs
MacBook Black, 2G Intel Duo, 100G HD, 2G Ram, OS-X 10.5.8
At one time I would get a pop up telling me the battery was getting low and I should plug in the charger within the next 10 minutes or so.
Now the MacBook just shuts off with about 15 minutes left. No pop up, no warning. How do I get my pop up warning message back?
