I added 1,072 fonts onto Fontbook and now all my applications like Word etc take ages to start.

I tried to delete the fonts in Fontbook but they come right back.

What can I do? I'd like to revert back to my original Fontbook.

Select all of the fonts you would like to remove, then right click on one of them and select, "disable fonts" then right click again and go to remove selected fonts.

No, tell a lie. When I close down Fontbook and reopen they are gone.

What is the best way to have lots of fonts but not clog up your softeware loading?

I don't know to much about this subject but I suppose you could disable them before opening the program and then re-enable them after opening the program. Again I don't know much about this so I might be giving you bad information.

Fontbook is the easy solution though Suitcase is far better. It you add them by Fontbook, you can manage them there as well. It works well. Trick is to keep the fonts disabled until you need them. Discipline is the key word when you have lots of fonts.

If you are going to start loading quite a few fonts, font book is not the best app, the free font explorer is much much better (and better even than Suitcase IMO)

If you really want to manage your fonts well I suggest the suitcase guide (the guide is free)

dl.extensis.com/downloads/ SC/EN/P/Fonts_Best_Practices_in_OSX.pdf

Just substitute use Suitcase with use Linotype FontExplorer

I will second Font Explorer, it's a really nice program. If you open a document that uses a font not activated on your system, it will temporarily activate it until you are done with that document.

I hate suitcase.
