I know an ex Mac user who is a professional computer animation guy working on commercials and stuff, and though Apple still holds a special place in his heart, and although he says Final Cut Pro is great software, he says that most pros use Adobe Premier which is very similar to FCP and more well known.

Question is - can I use it on my MBP?

I have outgrown i-movies and it is vital I move onto something more advanced soon or I limit myself to surviving by making wedding and graduation DVD's.

Mac Pro 8x3.0ghz 12gb ram 8800GT , MBP 2.16 2GB Ram 17 inch.
Its not used by most pros so I don't know where he heard that. The industry standard is AVID, and FCP is gaining ground being used by most professional but small (with out the high budget) production houses.

But you can get it for mac if your interested.
