15" Ti PB G4 867MHz 1GB RAM 10.4.6
Running 10.3.5,
Norton Personal Firewall,
Little Snitch

Do I need to worry about Adware/Spyware if I am currently up to date with the security update, and running the current versions of:

FireFox 0.9.3
Safari 1.2.3
Mozilla 1.7

I think this is primarily a PC problem, but I just wanted to check.

adware and spyware.. you dont have to worry about it for your mac.. u can use norton but somewhere on these fourms someone said it gets annoying becuase it will have to check every single c-d you put in your c-d drive.. etc.. you wont have to worry about spyware or adware for your mac.. mainly pc's have adware & spyware..

I don't use anything Norton due to all the problems I had with all their software.. i definitely do not recommend it. Adware and spyware.. never heard of any of that for macs and I've been using them for hmm.. 9 years or so :)

What do you use if not Norton? I am using a router and I am of the view that combination of the router and using a Mac means that my profile for viruses is so low that virus software is not needed.

Is this a valid view?

Reformat, right now. Just back up and reformat. Do it.

Norton is the biggest piece of crap ever, and it likes to rape OS X's core files, and it really sucks. You don't need virus protection, as there are 2 trojans out there for OS X and the only way you will get one is if you download "word 2004" off of Gnutella. And we all know that you wont do that.

You know, I've NEVER had any problems with Norton at all. I've got System Works 3 and NAV 9 on both my MAcs and have no issues with them......

If you turn on your Mac firewall (System preferences > Sharing) you are in great shape. Most, if not all spyware depends on the windows registry which IMO will doom the OS unless they remove it
