Should I have to do reset anything or mess with my MBP to get an external display to work? I plugged in the monitor from my Dell through the cable that came with the laptop and it is staying black...do I need to change any settings or anything?

Okay I got it to work but it's really fuzzy. I've looked at other threads and a lot of people have been having this problem...does anyone know how to fix the resolution on a Dell monitor running externally from a MBP?

What kind of cable. VGA converter?

If the Dell monitor has a digital cable, use it. That is what I do and I just plug it in and everything comes up correctly with a sharp image.

If you are using the VGA converter, then go into System Preferences and the Displays tab and make sure your settings are correct for the monitor. Use the native display size and probably set it to 60Hz.
