leopard is great, however last night i turned my macbook on and only a white screen came on, displaying a flashing gray folder with a question mark. does anyone have any help, I've tried re-installation but my hard drive does not show up

Sounds like you might have a bad hard disk. Try running the Apple Hardware Test and see what it says.

Also see if you can boot from the install DVD and run Repair Disk from utilities there.
