Printing to a shared windows printer

Hi

Fairly new to macs but not to computers in general.

I bought a new canon ip1800 budget printer today that I have connected to my pc.

I have tried to connect to it through my imac with 10.5.2. I can see the printer fine but my printer model is not listed in the list of printer drivers.

I have downloaded the driver from canon and installed it but the printer is still not listed.

How do I go about getting this installed?

I just need to tell mac os where the driver is.
