You buy the mini DVI adapter for your monitor and connect the two. It's as simple as that.

Mini DVI adapter, which one?

which mini-DVI do i get if i just want to connect my iMac to another LCD monitor? I just want one where i can watch dvds on one monitor and do work on my iMac.

~ mini-DVI to VGA?
~ mini-DVI to DVI?
~ mini-DVI to Video?

Really depends on which connectors you have on your external monitor. If you only have VGA, then the choice is clear. If you happen to have both, then I would suggest going with DVI.

If the connector looks like this, then you have VGA:

I was hoping you knew. You obviously don't have a monitor with the third connection. Does your monitor support DVI, VGA, or both?
