I am new to Mac and just bought a 13 inch MBP. When I start the Apple, it makes the typical Apple chime noise. It's not a bad noise per se, but I am a student and sometimes need the machine to be quiet in the library or in class if for example I had to re-boot.

I've read this is a firmware issue so it cannot be muted from the device. Are there any recent MBP 3rd party options? Seems strange that Apple doesn't let you turn this off.

You probably don't want to disable this, it's the POST chime, making sure that all the needed hardware is there and working for the computer.

There is a nice trick around this though. Just mute your volume before you shut it down, or turn it down really low, and the chime should be really quiet or muted. It works with however loud the volume was when you shut it down.

thanks. I shall try this. seems kind of silly not to have an option to shut it off though.
