advice for switching from pc

Hi,
i was wondering if someone could tell me what a good starter mac would be. I was checking out a power mac g5 with the following specs:

Apple Power Mac A1047 Desktop 2 Processors Power PC G5 2.0 Ghz Each with 250 GB HD/2 GB RAM/DVD-RW Drive/ATI Radeon 9000 Pro 64 MB Video Card/Pre-Installed OS X 10.5 Leopard Software
MODEL: A1047
2 SPROCESSORS: POWER PC G5
PROCESSOR SPEED: 2.00 GHZ EACH
HARD DRIVE: YES INCLUDED/250 GB
MEMORY: 2 GB RAM
FLOPPY DRIVE: NOT INCLUDED
DVD-RW DRIVE: YES INCLUDED
USB PORTS: 2 IN THE BACK AND 1 IN THE FRONT
TOWER/DESKTOP: TOWER
COA STICKER: NONE

And is there a way i can do a scan on my pc to see what peripharels can be used on a mac?

It really depends on what your goals and budget are...but to get the best experience...I would recommend getting a Macintosh with an Intel processor...so that you're able to run newer software versions & newer versions of the Mac OS.

Powermac G5's at this point are at least 6-7 years old...and they DO NOT have an Intel cpu in them.

The best way to find out of your peripherals are compatible with a Mac are...look up their model number on the internet...and see what the system requirements are. In most cases...you should not have a problem with monitors, keyboards, and input devices. Printers are a different story.

Hard to say as you really haven't mentioned what you intend to do with it.

What you're looking at is a roughly 7-year-old computer, running an OS that is 2 versions out of date. It runs on the PPC architecture, which is not supported either by Apple or most of the third party software vendors.

If you're looking at it as more of a toy, then it might be worth $150 or so to play with.

If you intend to use it as a full-time machine, then I would expect to encounter some difficulty and compromise.\

But again, it really depends on your needs.

If you going to switch, do it right. Get a recent machine capable of running the latest operating system and software. You don't have to buy brand-new, but you do need to buy something recent.

The G5 is so old that it will be nothing but a frustrating experience for you.
