lots of questions :)

a homepage is a page of a website - your entrance page if you want so - but some people call the complete site also homepage
your homepage can do a lot of things - it can be your identity card, shows your work, sell good, etc
usually you look for webspace and a domain, install wordpress, customize and publish your thoughts and stuff to the public

the question is - what do you want to do with your homepage?

Looks like you don't know basics of website development. I would advise you to study a little more on website development. You can simply google "what is a website" and "how to define main page of the website.

Is it possible the OP is asking about a home page in a browser? Any page you can go to can be your home page.
A lot of people use Google as a home page. Personally I use a blank page.

Could you be a little more specific as to what you're trying to do (or want to know more about)? Are you looking to design a website? If so, I recommend w3schools and more specifically their section on learning HTML (here).

you are absolutely correct ! i have a learning disability, got cracked in the head several years ago on a job site and i lost short term memory or something like that, according to the shrinks and other head injury specialists.., then 4 years ago i had spinal surgery C2-C6, bone spurs were growing into my spinal cord, the surgeon said i was within a few days of becoming totally paralyzed, that surgery left me with a lot of nerve damage, i walk like a "drunken sailor", my hands are in constant tingle, when i pick up something small i can not feel it.., but what the heck, i am a survivor.

Yes, that helps greatly. From your original inquiry, it was unclear whether you were having issues setting a home page or designing a website.

Setting a home page depends on what browser you're using:

Safari: Safari > Preferences > General > Homepage.
Firefox: Firefox > Preferences > General > Home Page.
Chrome: Chrome > Preferences > Settings > On Startup > Open a specific page or set of pages > Set pages.
Opera: Opera > Preferences > General > Home page.

As for a specific page, it sounds like you're looking for something similar to a "portal." Yahoo's homepage is portal like as is iGoogle.

OK, I think you posted in the wrong forum and since there are "home pages" when it comes to talking about web site design, that's where the confusion is..

In your case, you want to point your browser to whatever default page your ISP (Internet Service Provider) provides..

I have Comcast and I can point Chrome to Comcast.net and it will open with the latest news, local weather and my emails and so on if I had previously logged in..

It doesn't necessarily do anything for you other than give you a starting point..

I've just resorted to opening a blank page and with Chrome's omniurl bar I can put in my search string or specific URL and be on my way..
