Intro and some problems.

Greetings everyone. I am LCpl Berg. Sorry I don't have too many formalities, but I'm having some issues with my early 07 Powerbook G4 12''. I'm running OSX Tiger (10.4.11) and I have some errors occurring, and some codes from the system profiler that I need to get figured out.

Firstly, on Friday my Itunes randomly dumped my entire library, about 12 gigs gone in a period of around 10 seconds. After the pasted error I will also have a bunch of entries from the system.log concerning other errors. What those pertain to is that I have microsoft office, and what happens with Word, Powerpoint, and Excel is if I open them, they will start, get almost ready, and "Unexpectedly quit" every single time. I will copy the error logs from system.log first, then a copy of the error report to send to apple. For the first error, as copied and pasted from the panic.log from the system profiler, I got this...

Those crash logs may be interesting to Microsoft and Apple, but they don't really tell us a whole lot to be honest (i.e. stop pasting them here).

Create a new iTunes library (hold down option at launch) and just drag your media back in. Delete any Office related files in your Home/Library/Preferences, Home/Library/Application Support and Home/Library/Caches folders and see if that fixes the office issues.

Ok. I just posted that stuff to be as specific as possible. That's about all I got though. As for the itunes library I dont have any way to do as suggested. Most of my media was on an external, but that quit working a long time ago. The problem I had just wiped what was left.

Are you sure you were checking the library folder in your home folder? There are also library folders at your harddrive's top level and in your system folder- but we don't need those.

There definitely should be something in your "Home/Library/" folders... (your home folder is where "Documents", "Music", "Movies" etc live).

Ok. Looks like I got a little messed up there. Only stuff I found was in the home/library/preferences/microsoft folder. But all it was is a bunch of preferences for the programs. No actual documents. If I delete all of those, wouldn't that render the programs just as useless as they already are? These items include things such as: "Excel settings (10)" "Excel Toolbars (10)" etc.

The idea is you delete all the prefs because they might be causing problems, and Office will make new ones the next time it launches.

Ok. So I deleted all the preferences with the icons that actually look microsoft office related to no avail. Should I also delete the items that have an icon of a blank page with a corner folded down that have names like, "com.microsoft.Excel.plist" and "com.microsoft.OfficeNotifications.plist"?

Yes. Those are the preference files.

Delete anything you find in Users/Yourusername/Library that has microsoft or office in its name, regardless of whether the icon is office related or not.

Those files can all be trashed with no problem, apps just re-create them if they need them at all.

Ok, so I did all of that to no avail. Any other ideas?
