Hi everyone,

Our graphic department uses a Mac OS 10.4.11. Our problem is to display images in google images while browsing. We do not have any problem so far on Windows PCs regarding those issue.

No matter we assign static or dynamic IP, it is the same. Searching on the net even we tried openDNS as 208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220.

Apart from that there is not any problem while browsing on the net. Only in google images and we are using Safari.

Does it work in Firefox?

How do the images not display? Do you see boxes with blue question marks?

Hi Deniz

If you try downloading Firefox and trying it on there, we can determine whether it's Safari's fault or not.

These things are usually a matter of elimination.

Just to say, I've got a similar problem - both on Safari and Firefox. I'm going try another browser.... or search engine!

Meanwhile, if anybody has any ideas....?

Is this a recent problem? Was it out of the blue? Have you tried resetting your router back to factory settings?

Hi again Alexis,

We tried what you suggested by using firefox but the problem remains same. Even we gave it a try both on windows vista and macintosh at the same time.

The pictures are displayed as normal on vista but not on macintosh using either firefox or safari.

What happens if you alter and save your preferences within Google image search?

Do the other categories at the top work? ie. maps, news, shopping

Does Yahoo image search work?

Hi

I've just checked the other categories and they seem OK. Still no images though. Usually. Sometimes, one or two may appear.....

Hope this gives a clue....

You two wouldn't happen to be using high-latency broadband connections by any chance? (e.g. satellite internet, 3G, etc?)

Also, go to Window > Activity from Safari's menu bar and check what the error message next to the missing images is.

Hi Aptmunich

Personally, I am not using satellite or 3G....

There is no error message. The images are trying to load, but not progressing. Here's a snapshot of the Activity....

Puzzling stuff

Any further help appreciated.

You guys might have a similar issue as a customer of ours once had. It could be the router & browser combo...

I'd suggest you try modifying the number of simultaneous connections Firefox can make (Safari unfortunately doesn't have a parameter for this, but once we've narrowed it down, we can check the router settings).

Type "about:config" into the firefox address bar and adjust the following settings:

network.http.max-connections-per-server to 2
network.http.max-connections to 6
network.http.pipelining to true

Then give it another whirl!

Interesting! Good to hear that's working as a workaround!

The real issue is with the router then... make / model? Have you checked to see if any firmware upgrades are available?
If you can get your hands on the Safari 4 beta (I think it's a free sign-up) you could see if that improves things as well...

Basically the underlying cause seems to be that your setup won't permit too many simultaneous TCP connections. Google Images pulls 4-6 pictures from about 5 different servers at once, causing some kind of bottleneck.

Greetings Aptmunich

For the last six hours, I've been horizontal, in the arms of Morpheus, or more simply, asleep....

I now have a very brief window before going out in order to earn a crust....

So. The router is a Belkin ADSL Modem with wireless G-Router. Model no: FSD7632-4 ver 4001 UK

I have read some horror stories elsewhere about people updating firmware and thereby rendering the gadget useless, so I'm wary... An update is given at: Belkin : Support : F5D7632 - Firmware Download

I don't have time right now to pursue the beta Safari, but I'll try it later on my return.

Cheers for now. Mitcherooney
