Firefox on a five year old mac

We got our mac in the fall of 2007 and have not updated to any of the new operating systems. Firefox stopped working and I have been able to download a new copy, but it stops working after a day or less. Any help?

What OS version are you currently running?

More than likely...if the OS is updated...you will be able to download & run a newer version of Firefox.

What version of OS X are you using and do you own a PowerPC or Intel Mac? I ask because Mozilla has changed Firefox's system requirements quite a bit over the last few releases (starting with v.4).

What kind of mac>

It's an iMac 7.1 with an Intel Core 2 Duo.

At this point it's MUCH more important to know what OS version you're running (this question has been asked 2x).

OP, it's time for Snow Leopard

I tried calling Apple about whether I should order snow leopard, and I am balking at the idea that I need to spend $50 to get a question answered. I just want to be reassured that ordering snow leopard is what I need to do.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Why do you keep refusing to provide up with the information that we asked for...which was...what OS version is your iMac currently running. You've been asked at least twice!

We're trying to help you...and this info is important to know, so we know what you're dealing with on your end. Then we can help you further.

We can tell you if Snow Leopard is what you need...if you first tell us what OS this iMac is currently running.

Well...why don't you ask??

- Go to the Apple drop down menu
- select "About This Mac"
- This window that opens will show the OS version

Memory 1 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM

Startup Disk Macintosh HD

I think we got it just before they started naming the operating systems after cats.

Good deal...that's the info we needed.

Yes...your computer can run Snow Leopard (OS 10.6). Here's where to buy it:

Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.)

BEFORE you upgrade...make sure all you apps. te compatible with OS 10.6 (if this is important to you). It's always a good idea to do a backup as well.

Nope...not correct. Versions of OS X have always been named after cats:

- 10.0 = Cheetah
- 10.1 = Puma
- 10.2 = Jaguar
- 10.3 = Panther
- 10.4 = Tiger
- 10.5 = Leopard
- 10.6 = Snow Leopard
- 10.7 = Lion
- 10.8 = Mountain Lion

p.s. By the way...your iMac could run OS 10.7 as well. But you would need a ram upgrade to at least 2 gig.
