Need to download Leopard

Hello.

I received an iPad for Christmas and want to synch with my iTunes. However, I have Tiger (10.4.11) and therefore cannot install iTunes 10.1 (which is required for the iPad).

I am happy to upgrade to Leopard, but my DVD drive is inoperable after a drop. My MacBook Pro is four years old, so it probably doesn't make sense to repair the DVD drive (it's really broken - wouldn't be a simple replacement).

In any case, I think I need to just find a version of Leopard that I can download and figure out how to install it from there.

I appreciate any direction.

Thank you.

And only Pirate sites offer this service which we do not discuss nor approve of. Go out and buy Leopard or Snow Leopard and either fix the superdrive or purchase an external.

There are no Downloadable versions of Mac OSX (Like others pointed out) that are not pirated. We do not allow any discussion of Piracy on Mac forums.

You can get a new Optical Drive for your MBP from OWC and install it or a USB external DVD drive. I would purchase either from OWC as that way you know the drive you get is fully OSX compatible.

Thanks for the note. Of course I'll purchase Leopard.. I just don't know how to get it on my machine. I have an external hard drive - I will try looking for instructions on how to do that, but will appreciate any guidance on that approach.

If your DVD drive isn't working, you might want to purchase an external DVD drive that will plug into the USB port, use that to do the upgrade..

FYI...and install disk of Leopard is going to cost you $100-$125 dollars (on e-Bay...no longer available from the Apple Store). Since you have a MacBook Pro...you can upgrade to OS 10.6 "Snow Leopard"...which would only cost $29 (Apple Store).

Bought Snow Leopard

Do you know how I copy the files to USB using Windows? I'm finding lots of instructions on how to do it on Mac, but since it's my MAC DVD drive that's broken, it won't help. I went to purchase Air, but it was sold out at Best Buy so I thought I'd give it a try on an 8G Usb. If it doesn't work, I'll buy the drive, but I'd like to try this first.

I don't believe it can be done with Windows. My recommendation would be to pick up something like this:

Amazon.com: Samsung USB 2.0 8x DVD Writer External Optical Drive SE-S084B/RSBN: Electronics

...it will make life a lot easier.
