Hi Guys,

Firstly Hello, and it seems I have found a very nice forum.
I wonder if anyone can help!?

I am in Austria and just got a Thomson 585 wireless router.
I have a white macbook.

I setup the router and passwords etc. with details from my provider, and all works fine. BUT only with the ethernet cable.
Works fine with the cable plugged in, but once I try connecting via wireless from the mac, the connection fails.
I tried changing all the settings on the router via the setting on the box (channel, encryption or not, standard etc.) But nothing seems to get it to work. The router shows that the wireless is working and the light also stays solid green once I put a password in. But even without a pw, it doesn't connect.
Very frustrating.
Maybe the router needed to be setup with a windows machine?!

Anyone have any ideas/tips on how to get the wireless working?
There should be a trick for the Mac/thomson wireless combo?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hello and welcome ;)

Hi Guys,
Works fine with the cable plugged in, but once I try connecting via wireless from the mac, the connection fails.

Is it the wireless connection which fails ? Or the wirless connection is ok but you have no internet access ?

In the 1st case, have you also tried changing the channel of the wifi network ?

cheers,
Tex

When u go into Sys Prefs/Network/Airport what do you see there when the aiport light is Green? IP4? IPv6? Subnet mask? Also what OS are you on - Tiger and Leopard have slightly different pathways to achieve settings.

so the light in the mac airport settings is orange, and there it won't allow me to select my network, even though it is in the list.
The light is green on the router, once I put a password in.

It probably something small and stupid, but cannot get it to work. Even though it seems the router is setup and ready...
Any more ideas??
Thanks

Well, after hours of trying everything i could think of I finally got it!
fyi:
first push the wireless button on the front of the router,
then select the network from the dropdown wireless networks on the mac, whilst the button on the front of the router is still blinking orange.
Somehow that registers the 2 together.
I couldn't find that info anywhere, not even from the ISP.
Oh well, done now, and all happy.
Thanks again.

That's strange. Dont you have a MAC address filtering on your access point ?

:( Unfortunately when i turn off my mac and restart it i have the same problem. It worked only once. My Thomson is 585 v7. My PC is connected wireless with no problem. I tried to give my Mac a static (entered manually) and while it says that i'm connected to Thomson..... with IP xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx i can't load any page.
It's my first MAC and i'm a little disappointed with this problem... If anybody knows anything please help!

Have been getting on line and trying/sorting routers since 2003 but when a friend got one of those Thompson TG585v7 units FREE from local telco - i gave up on it. To much for me to sort, guess thats why they give em away. Dont blame the Mac for your troubles, it is innocent.

OK! Done it! It requires a little work, so...
1. I've reseted my Router (from it's back panel).
2. I've inserted the disk that came with the Router and started the setup.
3. When it asks u for the encryption code i entered WPA2 Personal.
4. In Mac's Network Preferences:
a.)\advanced\airport: on the preferred networks security, i entered WPA2 Personal.
b.)\advanced\TCP/IP: IPv4 used DHCP with manual address
IPv6 automatically
c.)\advanced\DNS\DNS Servers: I entered my routers address.

Hope it helps others with same problem. Oh... and I'm in Love with my new Mac. It's so... innocent.;D
