Ipod touch vs. iphone?

Hello,
I was wondering how the ipod touch and the iphone were different. I feel i would enjoy either but i have verizon and am not very fond of hte monthly charges. but i'm not very fond of the ipod touch's only wifi connectivity, because i feel that connectable wifi is not as popular as possible. What else is the touch good for (besides music) etc.

I actually rarely use my iPod Touch for music. More often I use it as a convenient internet source or for using apps I downloaded (which require internet). The wireless thing isn't a problem for me, though, since I live on a college campus.

I also live on a college campus. But i think i'd be nice to be in a car and be able to use it. As well, i graduate this upcoming year so i wont' be on a college campus anymore. I think i want a smartphone but i don't want to pay, haha.
