I bought a MacBook last spring and have decided that I would like to upgrade the hard drive. Right now it's at about 80GB and I would like to go to about 120GB or higher. Does anyone know how I go about doing this? Or where I can find out what it's going to cost me?

Is there anything stopping me from buying my new hd from newegg?

And do I have to use the 3 brands that came up on the site you pointed me to?

How will upgrading the HD void the warranty? Its user servicable.

Indeed. The RAM and hard drive are user servicable parts on the MacBook. They're specifically designed to be easy to get to. Not sure about the MBP - I know the RAM slots are harder to access but I think they should be fine.

if you had to get your macbook serviced and this is "warranty voidable", could you just throw in the old hard drive before handing it over to apple? how are they to know?
