friends - I currently run office 2004 and bought the office for mac 2008 and want to upgrade. However, I as wondering if I upgrade will it overwrite the 2004 or can I use both as I need ? I just want to have the choice to revert to 2004 if I can.

Thoughts ? anyone does this yet ?

The office 2008 setup will run a check for previous versions, but I am not sure what your options are as I did not have an older version installed.

Office 2008 will replace 2004 and why would you want to use both? Cause a lot of confusion for updates etc. Install Office 2008 and update to version 12.2.5 from the Mactopia web site.

To lax1976:

Just to add what you've been told already....

Office 2008 does not support VBS which means no macros. So if you have templates or documents that run macros from 2004, you will be unable to use them in 2008. But keep them around as Office 2011 will be released later this year and VBS is included with that version.

Regards.

Kind of anxious for 2011 to be honest. I have used Outlook since the day it released long ago, and Entourage just plain irritates me. It is hard to stray from Outlook for me.

I agree - wait for 2011 if you can for the VBS support. Another option is to use a virtual machine to run the windows version of Office (using a VM allows cut/paste, click/drag, etc.) on your Mac while you wait, although you have to buy Windows and the windows office version (2010 is out as it happens).

Cheers

I just purchased Office 2010 for our Win machines and was able to get it discounted through my employer for $79. It allows for three installs. Nice upgrade. I just hope the Mac upgrade (2011) is as good.

$79, great discount! My wife's employer discount brought it to us for $9.99. Scooped that right up of course. I hope they do the same when 2011 releases.

I would say that's a super discount! :) I'm with you on getting Office 2011 discounted but truth is, Mac software is seldom available at the same discounts as that for Windows. Hopefully that will change in the future as Apple garners more and more of the "Evil Empire's" share. :p

Who knows, just a game of wait and see. I first got the link to buy the software from my wife and I went in and they offered Office 2007 and Office 2008 for the Mac for the $9.99. I did not buy at that time, and when I went back in later 2010 had released and the offer had automatically changed to reflect the new version. I can only hope that it does the same with the Mac version. My price of $64 for 2008 seems way high now that I could buy it for $10! :D

Gotta love these deals when they come around!
