Two Problems

Greetings,

I hope someone can help me. As of a few days ago my single processor G4
867mhz started exhibiting the following two symptoms, using OS 10.2.8:

Symptom #1: I could no longer print with my Brother Laser printer. I got
only vague error messages without actual error codes. So I removed all my
printer drivers, and attempted to reinstall the printer software. But I got
into trouble during the reinstallation process where I put in my password.
After inputting my password, and hitting ENTER, the program repeatedly crashes; again with no specific error code.

Symptom #2: When I attempt to use Software Update, to update my OSX apps, I get an error message that states: "An unexpected error has occurred."

So I can't print, and I can't reinstall the drivers. I also can't update my
OS software. I've tried repairing permissions repeatedly, as well as
rebooting, to no avail.

Any ideas? I appreciate any help you can offer at this point...

Thanks,
-Mark

You can try downloading the Mac OS X Update Combo 10.2.8 and re-installing it over the current 10.2.8. Sometime this may resolve problems.

rman,

Thanks for trying, but it didn't work. Whenever I get to the Authentication stage the Authentication crashes after I hit Enter after inputting my password.

I've repaired permissions, and used Disk First Aid to repair one flaw in my disc structure, but still no good. Can't use Software Update, can't print, and can't use a Combo Updater. HELP!

Thanks,

Looks like it's time for an upgrade to Panther/Tiger. ;)

A few suggestions

Since the rollback didn't work I have 3 suggestions for you.

1. Norton Utilities. If you have access to this I have seen this fix this issue before.

2. You can do an archive and install. This will put on a new system but leave your files intact.

3. The last thing is if you have another OS 10.2.8 system you can transfer over the system folder. This isn't always a great solution but I have seen it work too.

I have seen many problems with 10.2.8. It might be best not to update the system to this version. Or upgrade to 10.4. :)
