Does anyone make these besides Apple? I have a 30" monitor on the way and would like not having to pay $100 for one if I can help it.

Don't think there is as of yet.

However, you could ask monoprice.com about making one. They're pretty receptive to this sort of thing. I think it took them just over a month to develop, produce and have up for sale the mini-display port to hdmi adapter after that was requested.

I've read somewhere that the adapter has an actual hand in scaling the signal to dual link dvi. My guess is that it's a bit beyond just making a cable. I mea, there are a TON of complaints about the adapter not even working well, or at all, in the first place. I ordered one, but I'm scared.

VI, do keep us posted if you will. I have read some of the same complaints you have. There are also a lot of complaints about the Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter not working with many TV's and some monitors. At the price of the Dual Link adapter though, it better work! :D

Good luck.
