Hey all,
I just wanted to drop in and say hello. Interesting forum.
Pretty new to Macs as a general rule, but I have used them a little in the past. I've been using various distros of Linux for the past few years, and still do on my laptop/netbook (currently Mepis 8.0).
Since this was the "switcher" hangout, I figured it was the appropriate place to stop in. More or less just got the machine up and running this afternoon. It's an older G4 machine, runs 933MHz PPC, 1.5GB of RAM, something around 300Gb of storage, Airport firmware 9.52, standard DVD burner... etc. I think it is a "Power Mac" though I have yet to determine the difference between this model, and any of the other older G4 series desktops. Still runs pretty smooth, quick enough for my needs. I don't do a lot of gaming on computers, so I am not really giving anything up in that regard. The extent of my gaming would be arcade emulation, or maybe some Warcraft, if the discs that I have are even Mac compatible.
About the only thing that I do not like is the mouse... that is going to take some getting used to, or I can just get a multi-button mouse, and call it a day. Though I DO like the Mac keyboard. One of the things that influenced my decision to get the G4 was case design... I like the flip out mobo tray... that and the price was low enough.
Later!
