MacBook to HDTV connection troubles

Hello, I'm new here. I've been a Mac user since 2008 and my girlfriend has since 2006.

We recently purchased an LG 32LD350 32-Inch 720p 60 Hz LCD HDTV, with the intention of taking advantage of its dual use as a monitor for our MacBooks. We connect to it using an HDMI cable, with a converter for the mini DVI port.

There are no problems connecting her MacBook to the TV. But when I connect mine, the laptop display reads that it is connected to an external display, and I can open the preferences for LG TV, but the TV reads No Signal.

Why does hers work and not mine? Any advice?

You didn't mention which model MacBook you have or that of your GF, but read through this Sticky Post to see if it helps.

Yeah, sorry, I did intentionally, I wanted to keep my initial message in a sparse "Just the facts, ma'am" because I tend to ramble.

GF: MacBook model ID 1,1
Me: MacBook model ID 1,4

Thanks for the link, I hope it helps!
